What is Clotrimazole cream?
Clotrimazole Cream is a topical antifungal medication used to treat a variety of fungal skin infections. It works by directly targeting and eliminating the fungi responsible for infections such as athlete’s foot, jock itch, ringworm, and yeast infections like thrush. When applied to the affected area, Clotrimazole Cream helps to stop the spread of the infection and provides relief from symptoms such as itching, redness, and irritation. Suitable for use by adults and children, it is a widely used and effective treatment for managing common fungal skin conditions.
How do you use Clotrimazole cream?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the leaflet or as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you're unsure about any details, consult your healthcare provider.
If you purchased this product without a prescription, follow these directions carefully:
- Before using, pierce the tube seal by turning the cap upside down and pressing it over the end of the tube.
- If your feet are infected, wash and dry them thoroughly, especially between the toes, before applying the cream.
- Apply Clotrimazole cream thinly and evenly to the affected areas two or three times daily, and gently rub it in.
- A strip of cream about ½ cm long is sufficient to treat an area the size of your hand.
- The length of treatment depends on the type of infection. For candida (thrush) infections, use the cream for at least two weeks. For other infections, continue treatment for at least one month.
- If you have athlete’s foot, using an antifungal dusting powder in addition to the cream may be beneficial. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to recommend one.
The symptoms of skin infection, such as itching or soreness, should improve within a few days of treatment, although signs like redness and scaling may take longer to disappear. If symptoms persist, consult your doctor.

If You Forget to Use Clotrimazole:
Apply the cream as soon as you remember, then continue with your regular treatment schedule.
If You Stop Using Clotrimazole
Do not stop using Clotrimazole abruptly, as this may cause the infection symptoms to return. To ensure the treatment is effective, follow these simple self-care tips:
- Avoid scratching the infected area, even though it may itch. Scratching can damage the skin’s surface and cause the infection to spread further.
- Keep the affected areas clean to help the treatment work effectively.
- Dry the skin thoroughly, especially in folds, but avoid excessive rubbing that could irritate the skin.
- Do not share towels, bath mats, or other personal items with others, as this could spread the infection.
- Always wash your hands after applying the cream to prevent the infection from spreading to other areas or people.
For Athlete’s Foot:
- Ensure you dry the skin between your toes thoroughly after washing.
- Wash your socks, stockings, and tights thoroughly in hot water to remove any fungal spores or shed skin.
- If possible, change your footwear daily to keep the environment around your feet clean and dry.
