from£12.49

Fybogel Mebeverine is a dual-action treatment designed to provide relief from the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It combines the gentle laxative effects of ispaghula husk, which helps to regulate bowel movements and alleviate constipation by increasing stool bulk, with the antispasmodic properties of mebeverine. Mebeverine works by relaxing the stomach and intestine muscles to reduce painful cramps and spasms associated with IBS. Together, these ingredients help manage both the discomfort and digestive irregularities of IBS, making Fybogel Mebeverine an effective option for those seeking comprehensive symptom control. This product is typically taken twice daily, and it comes in a powder form that is mixed with water to form a drink.

What is Fybogel Mebeverine?

Fybogel Mebeverine is formulated with ispaghula husk, a natural fiber-rich plant material. It functions by bulking up the contents within the gut, facilitating normal digestive processes. Additionally, it contains mebeverine, an antispasmodic medication that effectively eases spasms and cramps in the gut, alleviating associated pain. This combination helps manage and relieve the uncomfortable symptoms often experienced in the digestive system.

What are the active ingredients in Fybogel Mebeverine?

The active ingredients contained in this medicine are: 3.5g Ispagula husk and 135mg Mebeverine.

What is Fybogel Mebeverine used for?

Fybogel Mebeverine is used primarily to treat symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It combines the benefits of two active ingredients: ispaghula husk and mebeverine. Ispaghula husk is a natural fiber that helps to increase the bulk of stools and promotes regular bowel movements, which can alleviate constipation and help manage diarrhoea. Mebeverine is an antispasmodic that works to relax the muscles in the intestinal walls, reducing painful cramps and spasms commonly associated with IBS.

Together, these ingredients help to regulate digestive function, reduce discomfort, and improve the overall quality of life for individuals suffering from IBS. Fybogel Mebeverine is especially useful for those who experience both constipation and spasmodic symptoms as part of their IBS.

How does Fybogel Mebeverine work?

Fybogel Mebeverine works through the combined actions of its two main ingredients: ispaghula husk and mebeverine.

  1. Ispaghula Husk: This is a natural source of soluble fiber, which absorbs water as it passes through the digestive system. This absorption helps to increase the bulk of the stool, which can encourage the bowel to move its contents more smoothly and regularly. By normalizing stool consistency, it helps alleviate symptoms of both constipation and diarrhoea, common in IBS sufferers.
  2. Mebeverine: This component is an antispasmodic that acts directly on the smooth muscles of the intestine. It helps to relax the muscle contractions that are often more frequent and severe in IBS. This relaxation of the gut muscles reduces the painful spasms and cramps that are typical symptoms of IBS.

Together, these ingredients help manage the dual issues of irregular bowel movements and abdominal pain in IBS, providing a comprehensive approach to symptom relief. This makes Fybogel Mebeverine an effective option for improving daily digestive comfort and functionality in individuals with irritable bowel syndrome.

How do you use Fybogel Mebeverine?

Mix the contents of one sachet into at least 150 ml of cold water and drink it right away. It's crucial to consume Fybogel Mebeverine with sufficient water. Avoid taking it immediately before bedtime or within 30 to 60 minutes before or after other medications. The effects of Fybogel Mebeverine may take between 12 to 24 hours to manifest.

When preparing the drink, be careful not to inhale the powder.

Dosage: Adults, the elderly, and children over the age of 12 should take one sachet of Fybogel Mebeverine half an hour before meals, typically one sachet in the morning and another in the evening, or as directed by a healthcare provider. If needed, an additional sachet can be taken before the midday meal. Fybogel Mebeverine is not suitable for children under 12 years of age.

Duration of Treatment: Consult a doctor if new symptoms appear, or if existing symptoms worsen or do not improve after two weeks of treatment.

If you miss a dose, simply continue with the next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

If you accidentally take more Fybogel Mebeverine than recommended, ensure to drink plenty of water and seek medical advice if necessary.

Who should not take Fybogel Mebeverine?

Avoid Fybogel Mebeverine if you are allergic to ispaghula husk, mebeverine, or any other ingredients listed in the product. Do not use this medicine if:

  • You have been diagnosed with a bowel blockage.
  • You suffer from muscle weakness or decreased activity of the bowel, such as megacolon or paralysis of the intestine.
  • You have difficulty swallowing or throat problems.
  • You are experiencing severe constipation or have noticed blood in your stool.
  • You have observed a sudden change in bowel habit that has lasted for more than two weeks.
  • You are breastfeeding.

Preparation and Usage Risks: Ensure you mix the granules with sufficient liquid to prevent gut blockage, which could cause chest pain, vomiting, or difficulty swallowing and breathing.

First-Time Symptoms: If this is your first time experiencing these symptoms, consult your doctor before using Fybogel Mebeverine to ensure it is the appropriate treatment.

Warnings and Precautions:

  • If you are a healthcare worker who has been exposed to ispaghula husk frequently, you may have developed an allergy. If allergic symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately.
  • If you have phenylketonuria, be aware that this product contains aspartame, a source of phenylalanine.
  • Elderly individuals or those over 40 should use this product with caution, particularly if you experience abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, weight loss, paleness, fatigue, fever, or have recently traveled abroad.
  • Consider medical advice if you are pregnant, may be pregnant, or have abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge.
  • If you experience difficulty or pain when passing urine, or if you are taking diuretic medicine or other medications that can cause constipation.

Interaction with Other Medicines:

  • Do not take Fybogel Mebeverine within half an hour to an hour before or after taking certain medications, such as insulin or thyroid medications. Consult your doctor as adjustments to these medications may be necessary.

You may experience an allergic skin reaction such as a rash or itching, commonly referred to as “hives” or “nettle rash.” If you notice any itching or develop a rash, stop taking Fybogel Mebeverine immediately and inform your doctor.

If you experience symptoms of a severe allergic reaction, including swelling of the face or difficulty breathing, contact your doctor immediately and stop taking Fybogel Mebeverine.

Those who handle the powder form regularly are particularly at risk.
