What is Soolantra cream?

Soolantra Cream contains the active ingredient ivermectin, which belongs to a class of medications known as avermectins. Ivermectin has both anti-inflammatory and antiparasitic properties, making it effective in treating the inflammatory lesions associated with rosacea, a chronic skin condition that causes redness, pimples, and bumps on the face.

Soolantra Cream is specifically designed for topical use on the skin to reduce the appearance of pimples and spots caused by rosacea. It works by targeting the underlying inflammation and by combating Demodex mites, tiny parasites that are often found in higher numbers on the skin of people with rosacea and may contribute to its symptoms.

This medication is intended for use by adults aged 18 years and older. It is typically applied once daily to the affected areas of the face. Consistent use of Soolantra Cream can help to significantly improve the appearance of the skin and reduce the frequency and severity of rosacea flare-ups.

What is the active ingredient in Soolantra cream?

Soolantra cream contains the active ingredient ivermectin. On average, 1g of cream contains 10mg of ivermectin.

What is Soolantra cream used for?

Soolantra Cream is primarily used to treat the inflammatory lesions of rosacea, a chronic skin condition that affects the face. Rosacea is characterized by persistent redness, visible blood vessels, and acne-like bumps or pimples. Soolantra is specifically effective against the inflammatory papules and pustules associated with this condition. The cream works by reducing inflammation and targeting Demodex mites, which are often found in higher numbers on the skin of people with rosacea and are believed to contribute to its symptoms. By addressing these underlying factors, Soolantra helps to clear up the skin, reduce redness, and improve the overall appearance of the face.

How does Soolantra cream work?

Soolantra Cream works primarily through its active ingredient, ivermectin, which has both anti-inflammatory and antiparasitic properties. Here's how it helps treat rosacea:
  1. Anti-inflammatory Action: Ivermectin helps to reduce the inflammation associated with rosacea. This action helps to decrease the redness, swelling, and the formation of inflammatory lesions such as papules and pustules on the skin.
  2. Antiparasitic Effect: Soolantra targets Demodex mites, which are microscopic parasites commonly found on human skin. Studies suggest that people with rosacea tend to have higher numbers of these mites, and their presence may contribute to the inflammation and symptoms of rosacea. Ivermectin kills these mites, reducing their population on the skin and, in turn, helping to alleviate the symptoms of rosacea.
By combining these effects, Soolantra Cream effectively reduces the bumps, pimples, and redness associated with rosacea, leading to clearer and healthier-looking skin with regular use.

How do you use Soolantra cream?

Always use Soolantra Cream exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you have any doubts, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Important: Soolantra is intended for adults and should only be used on the facial skin. Do not apply this cream to other parts of your body, particularly moist areas such as the eyes, mouth, or mucous membranes. It is not for oral use—do not swallow.
  • Recommended Dose: Apply Soolantra once daily to the face. Use a pea-sized amount of cream for each of the five areas of the face: forehead, chin, nose, and each cheek. Spread the cream evenly in a thin layer across the entire face.
  • Avoid Sensitive Areas: Be careful to avoid applying the cream to the eyelids, lips, and mucous membranes (such as inside the nose, mouth, and eyes). If the cream accidentally comes into contact with these areas, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water.
  • Cosmetic Use: Do not apply cosmetics (such as other facial creams or makeup) before using Soolantra. These products can be applied after the cream has dried.
  • Hand Hygiene: Wash your hands immediately after applying the cream.
  • Treatment Duration: Use Soolantra daily throughout the treatment course, as directed by your doctor. Treatment duration may vary depending on the severity of your condition. You might see improvement after 4 weeks, but if there's no improvement after 3 months, discontinue use and consult your doctor.
For Patients with Liver Problems: If you have liver issues, consult your doctor before using Soolantra. Use in Children and Adolescents: Soolantra is not recommended for children and adolescents. How to Open the Tube with Child-Resistant Cap:
  • To avoid spilling, do not squeeze the tube while opening or closing it.
  • Push down on the cap and turn it counterclockwise (to the left), then pull the cap off.
How to Close the Tube with a Child-Resistant Cap Push down on the cap and turn it clockwise (to the right) to close it securely. If You Use More Soolantra Than Recommended If you accidentally apply more than the recommended daily dose, contact your doctor for advice on what to do next. If You Forget to Use Soolantra Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed application. Simply continue with your next scheduled dose. If You Stop Using Soolantra The reduction of pimples and spots requires consistent application over time. It’s important to continue using Soolantra for the duration prescribed by your doctor. If you have any further questions about using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Who should not use Soolantra cream?

Do Not Use Soolantra If:

  • You are allergic to ivermectin or any of the other ingredients in this medicine, please refer to the patient information leaflet.

Soolantra cream FAQs

How does Soolantra Cream treat rosacea?

Soolantra Cream is an effective, prescription-only treatment for acne rosacea. It works by reducing inflammation and killing the parasites (Demodex mites) that can contribute to the condition. Applied directly to the affected area, Soolantra improves the appearance of blemishes and bumps associated with rosacea. Most users notice improvement within two weeks, and the cream can be used continuously for up to four months.

How do you use Soolantra?

Soolantra should only be applied to the facial skin, avoiding contact with the eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes. The standard dosage is one application per day, for up to four months. Here’s how to use it:
  • Apply a pea-sized amount of cream to each of the affected areas (forehead, nose, chin, and cheeks).
  • Spread the cream in a thin layer across your face, avoiding the eyelids and lips.
  • Wash your hands immediately after application.
  • Allow the cream to dry before applying other skincare products or makeup.
The best time to apply Soolantra is either in the morning or evening, but consistency is key. Note: Soolantra Cream is for topical use only. Do not use it in or near the eyes, mouth, or other sensitive areas.

How long does Soolantra cream take to work?

Most users begin to see improvement in their rosacea symptoms within four weeks of using Soolantra Cream. Although some may notice changes earlier, full results typically require consistent use for several weeks. If you don’t see any improvement after three months, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Is Soolantra Cream suitable for everyone?

While Soolantra is effective for many people with rosacea, it may not be suitable for everyone. You should avoid using Soolantra if:
  • You are allergic to ivermectin or any other ingredients listed in the patient information leaflet.
  • You are under the age of 18.
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Always consult your doctor or pharmacist before starting a new treatment.

What results can I expect from using Soolantra Cream?

Clinical studies have shown that patients using Soolantra experienced significant improvement in their rosacea symptoms. After two weeks, patients reported 27% fewer bumps and blemishes, and after twelve weeks, this figure increased to up to 75%. Continued use often results in even better outcomes, with 38% of users being “clear” or “almost clear” of rosacea symptoms after twelve weeks. If no improvement is seen after three months, you should stop using Soolantra and consult your doctor.

What are the alternatives to Soolantra Cream for treating rosacea?

Several alternatives to Soolantra Cream are available for treating rosacea, including:

  • Finacea Gel: Treats rosacea pimples and spots but may be less effective for redness and is not recommended for people with asthma.
