Caverject 20mcg/ml dual chamber injection

from£48.99

Caverject is an injection treatment for men with erectile dysfunction. Unlike ED tablets like Viagra and Cialis, Caverject is injected directly into the penis, making it a viable option for men who haven’t had success with oral medications or who cannot take them for medical reasons. Caverject is available in two forms: the regular Caverject (sometimes called Caverject Vials) and the Caverject Dual Chamber (or Caverject Impulse). The regular Caverject comes as a powder and liquid solution that must be mixed manually, while the Dual Chamber version contains both components within the injection device, making it easier to mix by simply twisting the plunger.

Caverject contains prostaglandin E1, a drug that relaxes blood vessels and enhances blood flow to the penis, helping to achieve and maintain erections.

What is Caverject Dual Chamber 20mcg/ml

Caverject Dual Chamber 20mcg is a highly effective injectable treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. This medication is designed for those who have not responded well to oral ED treatments or for whom such treatments are unsuitable. Caverject Dual Chamber provides a convenient and easy-to-use solution that combines both powder and solvent in a single dual-chamber syringe, simplifying the preparation process and ensuring accurate dosing.

What is the active ingredient in Caverject Dual Chamber 20mcg/ml injection?

The active ingredient in Caverject Dual Chamber 20mcg/ml is Alprostadil.

What is Caverject Dual Chamber 20mcg/ml used for?

Caverject Dual Chamber 20mcg/ml is indicated for:
  • Men with erectile dysfunction (ED), particularly those who have not responded to oral ED treatments such as sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), or vardenafil (Levitra).
  • Men who cannot take oral ED medications due to contraindications or side effects.

How does Caverject Dual Chamber 20mcg/ml work?

Caverject is administered via injection directly into the corpus cavernosum of the penis. This localized delivery allows the medication to act directly at the site of action, bypassing the gastrointestinal tract and reducing the potential for systemic side effects. Alprostadil induces an erection by relaxing the trabecular smooth muscle and dilating the cavernosal arteries, resulting in enhanced blood flow and entrapment within the erectile tissue.

How do you use Caverject Dual 20mcg/ml injection?

Your first use of Caverject Dual Chamber 10mcg/ml injection should be demonstrated by a nurse or doctor. Do not attempt to use it on your own without proper guidance. The following instructions provide an overview of the application process, but they are not exhaustive. Always follow the instructions provided in the leaflet and those given by your clinician. Instructions for Caverject Dual Chamber 20mcg/ml injection: The injection and solution are contained within the syringe of the Caverject Dual Chamber, so you don’t need to manually mix them.
  1. Take out one injection device and needle.
  2. Fix the needle to the device and turn it clockwise until it’s firmly attached.
  3. Remove the outer protective cap.
  4. Holding the device pointing upwards, with the plunger rod fully extended, twist the plunger rod to mix the powder and solution together.
  5. Gently shake to dissolve the powder.
  6. Remove the inner needle cap. If the needle is bent, do not use it and replace it with another one.
  7. Flick the syringe to remove any bubbles.
  8. Fully turn the plunger rod as far as it will go and then push it in.
  9. Turn the plunger rod to set the recommended dose.
You then have 24 hours to use the injection. How to Inject Caverject
  1. Tap the syringe to remove any air bubbles.
  2. Set the dose your prescriber has recommended by pushing the plunger to the correct amount.
  3. Ensure the needle is straight. If it’s bent, attach a new one.
  4. Hold your penis with your fingers underneath and thumb on top, gently applying pressure to make the injection site at the base of the penis bulge out.
  5. Maintain a firm grip and insert the needle into the penis, avoiding any veins or blood vessels.
  6. Push the plunger to deliver the dose.
  7. If the liquid doesn’t flow easily, don’t force it. Move the needle slightly and try again.
  8. Once the dose is delivered, remove the needle from your penis and gently apply a gauze pad to the injection site. Discard any remaining mixture.
Your clinician will demonstrate how to use and mix Caverject.

Who should not use the Caverject 20mcg/ml Dual Chamber injection?

  • Do not use Caverject if you have conditions that predispose you to priapism (prolonged erection) such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia.
  • Avoid using Caverject if you have penile implants or deformities.
  • Discuss your full medical history with your healthcare provider, particularly if you have cardiovascular conditions, as sexual activity may pose a risk.
  • Use Caverject cautiously if you are taking anticoagulants or have a bleeding disorder.

Caverject 20mcg/ml Dual Chamber injection FAQs

Is using Caverject 20mcg/ml Dual Chamber injection painful?

Using Caverject 20mcg can cause some discomfort or pain at the injection site for some men. This is a common side effect and can vary in intensity from mild to moderate. The pain is typically brief and may decrease with regular use as you become more accustomed to the injection process. If you experience significant pain or persistent discomfort, it is important to discuss this with your healthcare provider, as they may adjust your dosage or injection technique to improve your experience.

How does Caverject 20mcg/ml Dual Chamber injection work?

Caverject 20mcg/ml works by using a medication called alprostadil, which is a synthetic version of a naturally occurring substance called prostaglandin E1. Alprostadil helps to relax the smooth muscle and dilate the blood vessels in the penis. This process increases blood flow to the penis, leading to an erection. Here's how it works in detail:
  1. Injection: Caverject is injected directly into the corpus cavernosum, which is one of the two cylindrical chambers in the penis that fill with blood to create an erection.
  2. Relaxation of Smooth Muscle: Alprostadil relaxes the smooth muscle tissue in the corpus cavernosum.
  3. Dilation of Blood Vessels: The relaxation of smooth muscle tissue causes the blood vessels to dilate, allowing more blood to flow into the penis.
  4. Increased Blood Flow: The increased blood flow fills the corpus cavernosum, leading to an erection.
Caverject is typically effective within 5 to 20 minutes after injection, and the erection can last for about 30 to 60 minutes. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and instructions provided by your healthcare provider to ensure safe and effective use of the medication.

What is the difference between the Caverject injection and the Caverject Dual Chamber injection?

Caverject injections and Caverject Dual Chamber injections are both used for treating erectile dysfunction, but they differ in their preparation and convenience. Standard Caverject injections require manual mixing of a powder and a solution using separate vials and syringes, which can be time-consuming and requires careful handling. In contrast, Caverject Dual Chamber injections streamline this process by combining the powder and solution within a single syringe. This dual-chamber system simplifies preparation, as it only requires mixing by twisting the plunger rod, eliminating the need for separate vials and reducing the risk of preparation errors. This makes Caverject Dual Chamber a more user-friendly and convenient option for patients.
