What is the CoEnzyme buccal film?

Transmucosal Buccal Coenzyme Q10 is a high-absorption dietary supplement designed to deliver Coenzyme Q10 directly through the mucous membranes of the mouth, ensuring faster and more efficient absorption into the bloodstream. Coenzyme Q10, a powerful antioxidant, plays a crucial role in energy production within cells and supports cardiovascular health, cellular regeneration, and overall vitality. This buccal form bypasses the digestive system, making it ideal for individuals seeking maximum bioavailability and quick effects. It is especially beneficial for those looking to boost energy levels, improve heart health, and support healthy aging.

What is the active ingredient in the CoEnzyme buccal film?

The active ingredient is CoEnzyme Q10 or Ubiquinone 50mg.

What is CoEnzyme Q10 used for?

CoQ10 is primarily used to support cardiovascular health, boost energy levels, and promote healthy aging. It is often recommended for individuals with conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and certain mitochondrial disorders. Additionally, CoQ10 may be beneficial for:
  • Supporting cardiovascular function: CoQ10 is crucial for maintaining healthy heart function and reducing the risk of heart-related issues.
  • Enhancing energy production: CoQ10 plays a key role in the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the primary energy currency in cells.
  • Antioxidant protection: CoQ10 helps protect cells from oxidative stress, which is linked to aging and various chronic diseases.
  • Improving skin health: Due to its antioxidant properties, CoQ10 is sometimes used to improve skin elasticity and reduce signs of aging.
  • Supporting cognitive function: CoQ10 may help improve cognitive function and reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases by protecting brain cells from oxidative damage.

How does the CoEnzyme Q10 work?

CoQ10 works by participating in the mitochondrial electron transport chain, a process critical for the production of ATP, the energy required by cells to perform various functions. It also acts as a potent antioxidant, neutralizing free radicals and reducing oxidative stress, which can lead to cellular damage and contribute to aging and chronic diseases. The transmucosal buccal delivery method enhances the bioavailability of CoQ10 by allowing it to enter the bloodstream directly through the mucous membranes in the mouth, bypassing the digestive system. This method avoids degradation by stomach acids and liver metabolism, ensuring more of the active ingredient reaches the cells that need it.

How do you use the CoEnzyme Q10?

The transmucosal buccal film delivers medication directly through the buccal mucosa, which is the inner lining of the mouth, straight into the bloodstream. Unlike traditional tablets and capsules that are swallowed, the buccal film is applied to the inside of the mouth. Once it contacts the cheek's inner surface, it immediately adheres and begins to dissolve. Here’s how to properly apply a buccal film:
  1. Thoroughly wash and dry your hands to prevent the film from sticking to your fingers.
  2. Carefully peel off the film and use your fingertip to position it on the inside of your cheek.
  3. The film will immediately adhere to the side of your mouth and start dissolving.
  4. Avoid swallowing saliva while the film is dissolving, as the goal is for the medicine to be absorbed through the mouth lining into the bloodstream.
  5. Refrain from eating or drinking for up to an hour before and after applying the film.
  6. The film should dissolve within two minutes and may leave a slight aftertaste, depending on the specific medication.
  7. Ensure you reseal the plastic blister tray to keep the film from being exposed to air, and store it either in the silver foil envelope or in a dark cupboard at room temperature.
For a video demonstration on how to apply the transmucosal buccal film, you can watch it here: YouTube Video. Note: Do not swallow the transmucosal film. This medicine should not be crushed or cut in half.

Who should not take CoEnzyme Q10?

While CoQ10 is generally considered safe for most people, there are certain individuals who should avoid or be cautious when taking CoQ10 supplements:
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women: There is limited research on the safety of CoQ10 during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so it is recommended to consult with a healthcare provider before use.
  • People with hypotension (low blood pressure): CoQ10 may lower blood pressure, so those with already low blood pressure should use it with caution.
  • Individuals with severe kidney or liver conditions: It’s important to consult a healthcare provider before taking CoQ10 if you have significant kidney or liver issues.
  • Those scheduled for surgery: CoQ10 may interfere with blood pressure control during and after surgery. It is advised to stop taking CoQ10 at least two weeks before any scheduled surgery.

What are the side effects with CoEnzyme Q10?

CoQ10 is well-tolerated by most people, but like any supplement, it can cause side effects in some individuals. Possible side effects include:
  • Mild digestive issues: Nausea, diarrhea, decreased appetite and stomach upset are the most common side effects.
  • Insomnia: CoQ10 might cause difficulty sleeping in some individuals, particularly when taken late in the day.
  • Skin rashes: Rarely, CoQ10 may cause skin rashes or itching.
  • Fatigue: Some users may experience fatigue or dizziness.
If you experience any severe side effects, discontinue use and consult a healthcare provider.

Does CoEnzyme Q10 interact with any other medicines?

CoQ10 can interact with certain medications, potentially affecting their efficacy or increasing the risk of side effects. Notable drug interactions include:
  • Anticoagulants (blood thinners): CoQ10 may reduce the effectiveness of blood-thinning medications like warfarin (Coumadin), potentially increasing the risk of blood clots. If you are on anticoagulants, consult your doctor before using CoQ10.
  • Blood pressure medications: Since CoQ10 can lower blood pressure, it may have an additive effect when taken with antihypertensive drugs, leading to excessively low blood pressure.
  • Chemotherapy drugs: Some evidence suggests that CoQ10 might interfere with certain chemotherapy treatments. It’s crucial to discuss with your oncologist before taking CoQ10 if you are undergoing cancer treatment.
  • Statins: Statin drugs, used to lower cholesterol, can reduce the levels of CoQ10 in the body. While some doctors recommend CoQ10 supplementation to counteract this, you should consult with your healthcare provider before combining these treatments.
As with any supplement, it’s important to talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting CoQ10, especially if you are taking other medications or have underlying health conditions.
