Finasteride 1mg tablets are a clinically proven treatment for androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness) in men. By inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, finasteride reduces the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a key factor in hair loss. This reduction in DHT helps to halt hair follicle miniaturization and promotes hair regrowth and density.

What are Finasteride 1mg tablets?
Finasteride 1mg Tablets are a clinically proven oral medication used to treat male pattern hair loss, also known as androgenetic alopecia. This condition affects men by causing thinning hair on the scalp, often leading to a receding hairline or balding at the crown. Finasteride works by addressing the hormonal imbalances that contribute to hair loss, helping to prevent further hair thinning and promoting hair regrowth.
Finasteride 1 mg film-coated tablets contain the active substance finasteride, which belongs to a group of medicines called Type II ‘5-alpha reductase inhibitors’. It works by preventing further hair loss. Men with mild to moderate hair loss can benefit from using finasteride, though it is not intended for those with complete hair loss.
What is the active ingredient in Finasteride 1mg?
The active ingredient is Finasteride 1mg which is a potent Type II 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. It functions by blocking the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Elevated levels of DHT are linked to hair follicle miniaturization, which is a key factor in male pattern hair loss. By reducing DHT levels, finasteride helps to stop the progression of hair thinning and encourages the growth of new hair.
What is Finasteride 1mg used for?
Finasteride is intended for use in men only and is used to treat male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). It works by preventing further hair loss. Men with mild to moderate hair loss can benefit from using finasteride, though it is not suitable for those with complete hair loss.
How does Finasteride 1mg work?
Finasteride 1 mg tablets work by targeting the hormonal mechanism responsible for hair loss in men. The active ingredient, finasteride, is a Type II 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, which means it blocks the action of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. This enzyme is responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that causes hair follicles to shrink and eventually stop producing hair in men with androgenetic alopecia. By reducing the levels of DHT in the scalp, finasteride helps to halt the progression of hair thinning and encourages the regrowth of hair. Clinical studies have shown that finasteride not only prevents further hair loss but also promotes an increase in hair density and thickness, making it an effective treatment for men with mild to moderate hair loss. However, it is important to note that finasteride must be taken continuously to maintain its benefits, as discontinuation can lead to a reversal of its effects and a return to the previous pattern of hair loss.
How Does Hair on Your Head Grow?
On average, your hair grows about 1 centimeter (half an inch) each month. Hair growth originates from hair follicles located beneath your skin. Each scalp hair grows continuously for 2-4 years (the growth phase), followed by a 2-4 month period where it stops growing (the rest phase). After this rest phase, the hair falls out, and a new, healthy hair begins to grow, repeating the cycle. Hairs on your scalp are in different stages of this cycle, so it is normal to lose some scalp hair every day.
What Is Male Pattern Hair Loss?
Male pattern hair loss is a common condition where men experience thinning hair on the scalp, often leading to a receding hairline and/or balding at the top of the head. This condition is believed to be caused by a combination of genetic factors and the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT shortens the growth phase and thins the hair, resulting in male pattern hair loss. These changes can begin in some men as early as their 20s and become more prevalent with age. Long-term hair loss can lead to permanent hair thinning or balding.

Does Finasteride 1mg interact with any other medicines?
Do not take Finasteride if you are already taking finasteride or dutasteride, which are medications used to treat a prostate condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Other Finasteride or Dutasteride Medications:Do not take Finasteride 1mg if you are already using other medications containing finasteride or dutasteride, which are used for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Combining these medications can increase the risk of adverse side effects.
Minoxidil:There is limited information on the combined use of Finasteride 1mg with minoxidil, a topical treatment for male pattern hair loss. Consult your healthcare provider before using both treatments together.
Blood Thinners and Anti-inflammatory Drugs:If you are taking anticoagulants (blood thinners) such as warfarin, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), inform your doctor. These medications may interact with finasteride and alter its effects.
Herbal Supplements:Use caution with herbal supplements, particularly those containing saw palmetto or other ingredients targeting hair loss or prostate health. These may have additive effects or interact with finasteride.
Hormonal Medications:If you are on hormonal medications, including testosterone replacement therapy, inform your healthcare provider. Finasteride can influence hormonal balance, and combining these treatments may require careful monitoring.
Liver Enzyme Inducers and Inhibitors:Finasteride is metabolized in the liver, so medications affecting liver enzyme activity (CYP3A4 inducers or inhibitors) can alter the concentration and effectiveness of finasteride. Examples include certain antifungal medications (like ketoconazole), antibiotics (like erythromycin), and anticonvulsants (like carbamazepine).
